Millions of people suffer from varicose veins and spider veins. They can often be a source of embarrassment for many people that they resort to wearing long skirts, pants or stockings to cover them up. If you are one of these people who feels self-conscious about their veins, it is time to consider a simple, minimally invasive procedure that will not only get rid of those pesky leg veins, but will also give you the confidence to start wearing shorts and dresses again.
Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for treating leg veins. It involves injecting a solution directly into the vein, which causes the vein to close and eventually fade. It is primarily performed for spider veins and smaller varicose veins.
If patients experience pain or discomfort we recommend taking Tylenol or acetaminophen, and avoid ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, aspirin, or other anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 48 hours. It is also important to avoid hot baths, hot compresses, whirlpools, saunas, and direct exposure to sunlight for 48 hours after the treatment. Strenuous exercise should also be avoided for at least two weeks after the treatment.
Some temporary side effects, which may occur at the site of the injection, include itching, bruising, small skin sores, raised red areas, or darkened skin that appears as lines or spot.
